HOW TO MAKE ORIGAMI SHURIKEN (Paper Weapons)

Below are diagrams for making 2 versions of the ninja shaken origami paper weapons:

VERSION 1: This version is composed of two segments, is very simple, and quite sturdy. It is relatively massive so it will fly pretty far. Unless your folds are sharp and neat though, it will tend to curve in flight.

Please be careful, this could easily fly into someone's eye and damage their sight forever. Only throw at each other if you are wearing safety goggles, and still be prepared for it to break the skin sometimes.

VERSION 2: This version is composed of several segments. It is quite a bit more complicated and time consuming, but it is worth the patience. This shuriken is very delicate and won't fly as well as the other shaken.

Please be careful with this Chinese star too, because when thrown, the points could easily hurt a person's eye.

Follow the steps to make the segments you see in the lower right hand corner. You will need 8 segments, they interlock as shown in the left hand corner.

The last piece is the hardest to lock in, but it folds in just like all the others.

When you are finished locking them together you should have a donut looking item like the picture below:

The ninja star is known as "Shuriken" in Japanese. This origami ninja star paper weapon is a true classic! Kids around the world have spent countless hours playing with this origami masterpiece, whether pretending to be ninja warriors on a mission or having competitions to see whose origami ninja star will fly the farthest!

Origami Ninja Star Paper Weapon

Step 1: Start with 2 pieces of square origami paper color sides down. You can use the same color if you want. I use 2 different colors so that it's easier to see.

Origami Ninja Star Step 2: Fold them in half. This is called a book fold. Crease well and unfold.

Origami Ninja Star Step 3: Fold both halves of each paper to meet the center crease. This is called a cupboard fold.

Origami Ninja Star Step 4: OK, we will now fold each paper in half along the vertical axis.

Origami Ninja Star Step 5: Fold them in half along the horizontal axis. Crease and unfold.

Origami Ninja Star Step 6: We now need to fold on the dash lines as shown below. Notice that the folds are now opposite of one another.

Origami Ninja Star Step 7: Let's fold the top parts first. Fold along the diagonal so that the edges line up and you form a triangle.

Origami Ninja Star Step 8: Let's now fold the bottom parts.

Origami Ninja Star Step 9: We now need to make 4 folds as shown by the dash lines below.

Origami Ninja Star Step 10: Let's fold the left (purple) one first. Bring the top half over to the right and crease well. Bring the bottom half over to the left. The dash lines show where the crease should be.

Origami Ninja Star Step 11: Let's work on the yellow one now. The yellow is opposite from the purple. So, let's fold the top half over to the left and the bottom half over to the right. Crease where the dash lines are in the picture below.

Origami Ninja Star Step 12: OK, Now flip the purple one only.

Origami Ninja Star Step 13: Now rotate the yellow one 90 degrees counter clockwise so that it's like in the picture below.

Origami Ninja Star Step 14: Now place the yellow paper on top of the purple like so.

Origami Ninja Star Step 15: OK, now comes the somewhat tricky part. We will fold the purple over on both ends and fit them under the yellow paper.

See the white dash lines? Fold the top triangle over on the white dash line and fit the tip under the yellow flap. Fold the bottom triangle over on the white dash line and fit the tip under the yellow flap.

Origami Ninja Star Step 16: FLIP Paper over and this is what you should see.

Origami Ninja Star Step 17: We will now fold the yellow tips over and fit them under the purple flap. It will be a snug fit!

Origami Ninja Star Step 18: FLIP paper over. After all your hard work, this is your origami ninja star! You can now start throwing it...just not at people!

Paper Gun Origami

The origami paper gun is very easy to make. Start with a rectangular (or square) piece of paper, and fold it in half from top to bottom as shown below.

Now fold the paper in half again, and a third time:

Fold the paper from left to right, then unfold. Next, fold the left side down at 90 degrees as shown below:

We want to fold the right side down at 90 degrees also. The following four photos show how to do this, to get the right side to be same length as the left:

Now make the handle of the origami gun by folding the right side over the left. Next, get another piece of paper and repeat steps 1 through 5 to form the barrel of the gun.

Insert the barrel into the handle as shown in the next two photos:

Step1

Use the same technique as you did when making the paper spear, including achieving the length you desire by overlapping the newspaper sections when you lay them out on the floor as you make a paper weapon.

Step2

Reinforce the ends of your paper weapon and create notches for your string with tape.

Step3

Harden the tape by heating it until it melts a little.

Step4

Find an appropriate string to use as a bow string, and look for some missiles to shoot with your paper bow. (Origami how to make paper weapons)

PAPER SPEAR

Step1
Overlap the sections of paper as you lay them out on the floor, being careful to overlap them until you achieve the spear length you desire.
Step2
Roll the sections tightly as you did when making the baton, but make sure you keep all the sections together as one continuous unit.
Step3
Tape the spear tightly with tape so it will not unroll or the different sections come apart.
Step4
Make a sharpened point for your paper weapon by forming a spear point out of tape and heating it until it melts a little, then shaping it into a point.

PAPER BATON

PAPER BATON
Step1
Collect several sections of newspaper or even the entire edition of a newspaper.
Step2
Lay the newspaper on the work table, open each section and lay them on top of one another so that you have a thick stack of opened newspaper sections.
Step3
Roll the newspaper into a roll, working your way from the edge of one side to the other. Do this as tightly as you can manage.
Step4
Tape the roll securely so it will not come undone. You have succeeded in making a paper baton weapon.
